The covers of the books have some shelf wear, especially at the tops and bottoms of the spines. There is a former owner's name and date on the front inside cover of all four volumes. There is also some foxing and discoloration on the endpapers. Volume I also has a slightly loose hinge at the front inside cover. This is a complete 4 volume biography of George Eliot arranged by her husband. It is a lovely little set with maroon spines with gold lettering and decoration. The covers are a flower print and the top edges are gilt.
