OUR STORE CATS
BOOKSTORE CATS AT CUPBOARD MAKER BOOKS
In addition to adoptable cats from Loving Care Cat Rescue (previously Castaway Critters), we have several fine felines who live at Cupboard Maker Books. They are affectionately doted on by staff, visitors, and book club members.

ODIN
Castaway Critters brought Odin to us. As Zak became ill, Odin arrived with his original name of Oneida. He stole our hearts with his love and his incredible attitude.
He was found scrounging for food in a dumpster. Volunteers from Castaway Critters saved his life and healed his injuries and flea bites. We feel so blessed to have this lovely, fancy boy as a part of our bookstore family.
ANNIKA
Annika is our second resident bookstore cat or our 'reluctant' bookstore cat. Squeekie would be very sad whenever all the adoptable cats went away so Annika came to stay with him permanently. She is very grumpy but she might tolerate you if you give her a few treats.

Annika is the author of one book: The Very, Very Bad Misadventures of Annika the Reluctant Bookstore Cat which was written by her human servants.

Annika is also an adventure cat and visits many hotspots in central PA in her backpack and on her harness. View her adventures on our socials!

Nash
When Mouse decided that his talents were better suited for The Cupboard Maker Cabin, the store needed another fluffy friend. Nash, a former Castaway Critter, was the perfect fit. This handsome fella was found in an abandoned trailer, but was rescued by an incredible volunteer before it was knocked down. He spends most of his time on our over 200 feet of integrated cat walks. Never fear, if this big guy hears a treat bag you'll be sure to see him. If you see him sitting by his entrance to the cat-walk, make sure to give him some scratches behind his ears and under his chin.

Princess Buttercup
Buttercup, also known as Princess Buttercup is the newest addition to the Cupboard Maker Books family. Found walking down the street, this sweet girl was just looking for a place to be around people. She spends her days lounging on the counter waiting to check people out. She loves meeting all of the customers in the store, and has even started going on some adventures with Aunt Annika. She quickly befriended the much shyer Nash, but has been bringing him out of his shell with all of her charm. She is a petite girl, but she is willing to bring the claws out over wet kitty food! Her and Nash are both wet foot and treat lovers, and often eat right off each others plates. Princess Buttercup is always up to something silly, so check her out on our social media.

MOUSE
Mouse is our third resident bookstore cat. Mouse was born in the bookstore during the shutdown for COVID-19 in the spring of 2020. He is a super chill boy who is happy to get attention from anyone, and loves to chase after his crinkly ball toys. Mouse is also an adventure cat and visits many hotspots in central PA in his backpack and on his harness. Early in 2025, Mouse chose to become a remote worker and move to the owners cabin, where he hangs out with his two best friends, Waylay and Not Tina. Follow him on his new adventures on our social media on Caturdays.

Mouse has three books about him which can be found in our shop or at his website.
ZAK
Zak was our fourth resident bookstore cat. He loved attention more than anything. He would sometimes join Mouse and Annika on their adventures outside the bookstore.
He was with us for two years before he passed away on November 8, 2023.

SQUEEKIE
Squeekie was our resident bookstore cat for eight years. Our sweet boy passed away on March 24, 2021.

There are three published books about Squeekie: The First Nine Lives of Squeekie the Bookstore Cat; The Second Nine Lives of Squeekie the Bookstore Cat; and Squeekie Celebrates 20 Years of the Cupboard Maker Books.
His close friends wrote down the stories of his adventures for him. The first book was written by bookstore employees, the second by local authors, and the third is a mix including both new stories and the best stories from the first two collections.
Creamsicle
Creamsicle was our first resident bookstore cat until 2014 when he kept sneaking out to follow Jason to work. Our sweet boy passed away on September 9, 2024. He was known to many as "The Shoulder Cat."
